J.J.Bausch opened an optical store in Rochester, New York in 1853. They sold vulcanite spectacle frames before manufacturing microscopes around 20 years later. As the company grew they won numerous awards for invention before they launched the famous Ray-Ban Aviators, originally designed for military pilots in 1936.

In 1964 the first moon images were captured using the Bausch and Lomb Super Baltar camera lenses. Their technological advances knew no bounds when coming to contact lens manufacture, in 1971 when they mass produced the first soft contact lenses. Since then, Bausch and Lomb have been at the forefront of contact lens technology with the latest cutting edge materials, to give their wearers some of the most healthy and comfortable lenses ever made.
